ICR_Annapurna Round and Chitwan 2011

ICR_Annapurna Round and Chitwan 2011

Introduction

This is one of the classic and most rewarding treks in Nepal. The southern slopes of Manaslu and, Annapurna ranges are heavily settled and, Annapurna ranges are headily settled and farmed, except the higher regions which support thick forests of Rhododendron and fir, most of the tribes inhabiting this area Gurungs, Magars, Chhetris and Newars. As on turn westwards into the Manang Valley and into the rain shadow of the Annapurna Rages dramatic changes occur. Though, there are small fields supporting some crops of millet and wheat, and small flocks of sheep and goats, the Manang tribes are traditionally a trading race, they are also Tibetan by origin and Buddhist by religion, and their architecture and life-styles is quite different to these tribes on the southern slopes. Thakali and Mustang tribes control the busy trading and pilgrimage trail along the Kali Gandaki, until move through the gap between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna into the wetter zones, where can meet Gurungs and Magars again. On the whole trek there is not one day during which one does not have magnificent views of all the ranges.

Upon arrival, we unload all the equipment and you will receive a full safety briefing.  Have lunch and then the guide will take you to the river starting point ready to begin your exciting 3 days raft trip. First day we begin with some class III rapids this is a warm up for the team, after 10/15 minutes you will be encountering 2 big class 4 rapids i.e. ‘Small Brother’ and ‘Big Brother’. Your guide will be making you work hard at doing exercises to work as a team maneuvering the raft efficiently.  After scouting the rapid, the safety kayaks will go first then the raft. Soon after encountering these two big rapids we will reach the Modi Khola confluence where we will choose the beach for the evening campsite. We unload the rafts and one raft team prepares dinner and rum punch whilst the others play or relax and take in the scenery.

April 27. Once the rafts are packed we start down the river for a day mixed with adrenaline calm and spectacular scenery including views of Annapurnna 1 and Himachuli. We will tackle many class III sections and the challenging class IV named REFUND. This section of river is abundant with vines, wildlife and lush vegetation hanging from the cliff faces. Our campsite is below the village of Purti Ghat.

April 28. Soon after being back on the water we reach the holy village of Seti Beni. The river has deposited a house size boulder in the confluence with a smaller tributary. Since confluence is considered holy places in the Hindu religion, this boulder has become an important shrine to the local river people. Nepal is the one of the most popular tours and trekking destinations of the world. Tours and trekking in the mountains of Nepal is more a cultural experience than a wilderness expedition. Rolling hills, thundering rivers, hidden valleys, lush forests and century’s old diverse ethno-cultures (Now World Heritage Sites) are crowned by the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas, including eight of ten highest mountains on the planet. It could be you next to witness from Himalayan vistas to deeply spiritual ethno-culture that has to be experienced to be believed in your Nepal adventure holiday.
